This is a great question, and we recommend benchmarking against Scratch for two
reasons.
This is a great question, and we recommend benchmarking against Scratch for two
reasons.
First, the benchmark to Scratch provides a zero marker, a line in the sand for lack of a
better term. This is similar to how the handicap system works, e.g., an 8 handicap is
relative to zero (an 8HCP is 8, above 0HCP).
Second, we believe all players are unique and produce scores differently. For example,
Jordan Speith's scores of 2-under often differ from how Dustin Johnson may achieve 2-
under. In our view, a negative Strokes Gained number is not necessarily bad. We’d suggest
focusing efforts on improvement over time in each category via trend graphs.
Remember, how you play the game and your development opportunities are unique;
using the Scratch benchmark allows you to profile yourself and measure improvement over time.
