Circles benchmarks are developed from analyzing 10 years' worth of PGA performance data. We covered data for such a long period of time to ensure they are robust and a large enough of sample of tournaments, players and shots to represent overall performance of the PGA tour. Our data scientists discovered that most PGA performance metrics have been relatively stable over the time, apart from driving distance which has trended up with help of improved equipment technology. Hence we selected a more recent time period of data to obtain driving distance related metrics.
Although there is no need to update PGA benchmarks after each tournament, our data team does review the most recent PGA Tour performance data every 6 months.
