Why Knowing Your Golf Club Choice Isn't Everything: Focus on Performance.

At Circles, our primary goal is to provide meaningful insights that genuinely improve your game. Through extensive analysis, we've determined that collecting data on the club used does not consistently contribute to this objective. Here’s why:

Variable Impacts

Golf is a dynamic sport with numerous variables affecting each shot. For instance, the choice of club varies significantly depending on conditions such as wind, course layout, and altitude. A player might choose an 8-iron for a 160-yard shot on a calm day, switch to a 6-iron when playing into the wind, or even opt for a 9-iron at higher altitudes. This variability means that knowing the club used in isolation does not provide a clear or reliable indicator of a player’s skills or the quality of their shot.

Misleading Insights

We found that using club selection data to drive insights often led to misleading conclusions. Because the choice of club can be so context-dependent, this data alone could not reliably guide future club selection or strategy. For example, knowing that a player used an 8-iron for a particular distance does not necessarily mean it's the right choice under different conditions.

Focus on Performance and Training

Instead of tracking club usage, our approach focuses on analyzing overall course performance. We aim to identify strengths and areas for improvement to help you optimize your performance. By providing targeted goals and feedback, we help you develop your skills more effectively.

Circles is designed to arm you with comprehensive, actionable insights that guide your training. With this focused approach, you can refine your skills and develop a deeper understanding of your game, leading to improved performance on the course.

By concentrating on what truly matters—your performance and how to enhance it—we ensure that every piece of data we collect is purposeful and impactful.
